The Northwest Florida Symphony Salute
Memorial Day 2008 Pops Concert in the Park
May 25th at the Mullet Festival grounds was America's Memorial Day at its best! In a tribute to our fallen American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and coastguardsmen and women, the Northwest Florida Symphony under the direction of Jeffrey Rink, along with the Youth Symphony, played our most beloved patriotic songs. Many men stood at a salute stance while their respective service anthems were being played, leaving few dry eyes in the crowd. These annual Picnic with the Pops Concerts are sponsored by the Florida Symphony Guild as a gift to the Panhandle community. This year's was attended by nearly 1,000 people. It rained in various parts of Niceville during the concert that day, but not one drop at the festival grounds. Instead, the crowd basked in a gentle breeze under the magnolia trees, honored their fighting heroes, and listened to the music that united them as Americans cherishing this special day in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
